New Poll: The Best Day of the Year
Posted on September 2, 2010 · Leave a CommentPreseason games are great and all, but at the end of the day, the wins and losses don’t really count for anything. It makes the game a little less dramatic. What I have been waiting for all year is this day, September 2nd, 2010. Why? Well, today marks the beginning of the college football season. It’s where I dedicate a day of eating and playing tailgating games with my best friends while watching some amazing football. Are you as pumped up about the season as I am? Who will you be cheering for?

Pets can bring companionship and joy, but they also come with plenty of responsibilities. We love it when residents adopt from rescue shelters. The pets usually have their shots up to date, and they have been fixed. There is plenty to consider when looking for a four legged friend. Check out the video below and keep your options open. There are tons of shelters around the St. Peters and St. Louis area.

So You Want to Save Money and the Environment?
Posted on August 19, 2010 · 1 CommentBeing young and broke isn’t always fun, but it causes you to become pretty resourceful. Ever since I left home to go out into this crazy world on my own, I have had to figure out ways to save. Here are two simple ways to save everyday:
- Buy a Bottle: Water, flavored water, and sports drinks can all be improved upon. Buy yourself a Nalgene to fill up with water, and add the powder versions of your favorite drinks. A few advantages to this are that you’re not wasting money on “bottled” water, which is usually tap water anyways, avoid harmful BPAs found in plastic bottles, and you can save the environment and your own cash from not being wasted on a bottle or two of water a day. Nalgenes come in different sizes, they are dishwasher safe, they’re virtually indestructible, and they are BPA free.
- Turn’em Upside Down: I use plastic ziplock bags a lot for packing lunches or snacks. One of my friends told me about how her mom used to make her and the rest of the family bring home their ziplock bags home with them from work or school. When they came home, they had to wash the bags, and then turn them upside down to dry out. The bags lasted a surprisingly long time, and the big family wouldn’t blow through a box of 50 in a week.
Grab Your Goggles, Tire Pump, and Shoe Laces
Posted on August 10, 2010 · Leave a CommentA great motivator for your time in the Sun River Village fitness center is to set a goal to reach. You will be amazed at the level of fitness that you can reach when you set a goal, like completing a race. Many people who start off a weight loss program see quick results, but then they tend to slow down. This is a great way of forgetting the scale, and focusing on the real reason why weight loss feels good; fitness.
The St. Peters Rec-Plex Triathlon is coming up in a little over a month and the time to sign up is now. It is a “sprint”, a shorter version of a normal triathlon. You can swim, bike, and run yourself, or you can join as a three person team, which is different from most triathlons too. Training for the triathlon will be no sweat. Running and biking can all be accomplished around St. Peters while you could easily train for the swimming portion in our pool at the apartments. Be sure to sign up as soon as possible. Events like this will fill up quickly. The race is on September 26, but you can register now. By jumping in early, you avoid the extra costs of late registration and you can commit to a training schedule.

Gut Check; Expose Your Abs Faster
Posted on August 6, 2010 · Leave a CommentWhat’s the perfect blog post for after reading the last few posts which included funnel cake and National Cheesecake Day? A health post with ways to burn off all of those calories that you consumed just from looking at the pictures.
One of my favorite full body, calorie blasting exercises is the “dumbbell snatch” and the “dumbbell swing.” Both are great moves to improve strength and get the blood pumping and lungs breathing. What’s the best part? You can perform these exercises for free in the Sun River Village fitness center. Begin with a 10 minute warm-up on the treadmill, stretch, and get to it. These full body exercises will have your abdominal muscles chiseled like the Rocky Mountains. Below are the videos that will help you with your form when performing the exercises. Soon, you will be the most fit person at Sun River Village apartments.
Celebrate National Cheesecake Day!
Posted on July 30, 2010 · Leave a CommentWhen I was growing up, my mom used to bake one or two cheesecakes a week. Most of the time, she gave the cakes away immediately, but she always made us miniature versions to taste later. Thankfully, she stopped this habit awhile ago. It was killing our cholesterol levels and I was getting to be pretty chubby. Though I haven’t had a cheesecake in what seems like forever, I still haven’t forgotten my love for them. Today is National Cheesecake Day and I plan celebrating in style. Now, I will never be able to compete with my mom’s cheesecake (who can?), but I am going to try my best to make my own using HowdiniGuru.
If you have an awesome recipe that you would like to share, please, leave a comment. I’d love to try it!

St. Charles County Fair 2010
Posted on July 21, 2010 · 1 CommentSummer fun kicks off on the 4th of July, but it is really the end of July that really makes the season so sweet and wonderful. Next Tuesday, July 27th, the St. Charles County Fair kicks off at 4pm. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to load up on funnel cakes and FREE carnival rides! This is good ole fun at it’s best!
Bring the family, or come with friends. The child in you is sure to come out, and if you’re like me, maybe a little country. Some of my top picks for the fair include: “Nostalgia Car Show,” “Tug-A-War Competition,” “East Central Tractor Pull” (I’ve never seen one in person,) and of course the “Demolition Derby.” These are just a few of the events going on during the fair. Check out the schedule and plan which events you just can’t miss.
